WHAT ARE PROBIOTICS?
Probiotics are essentially bacteria that are good for you, and which the body needs in order to survive. The average human body has up to 1kg of beneficial bacteria in the gut, and there are 7-10 times as many bacteria in your body as there are human cells…so you are actually more bacteria than you are human, in a way!

Bacteria are responsible for processing food that enters the body and extracting the nutrition so that the body can actually use that food. Bacteria give nutrition to the body. They assist the body to create its own vitamins and natural antibiotics. They are responsible for up to 80% of the body’s immunity. They are responsible for fighting infections and preventing the build-up of germs (disease-causing bacteria). So, in fact, bacteria are as important as food and water… If you don’t have any of those 3 things you die. Now you can see why it’s so important. 100 years ago, maybe we didn’t need to supplement our good bacteria – we got all that we needed from the food we ate, water we drank etc. Today, that’s not the case.

Fertilizers and herbicides destroy the natural bacteria in soils that we would have gotten in our diet. Antibiotics further destroy the bacteria in livestock, so we are not getting our bacteria in our meat either. As a result, in this modern age we have an explosion of body problems that didn’t all exist before: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Crohns, Celiacs, constipation…and a whole lot of other problems caused by bacterial imbalances: blood sugar, immunity problems, even mental health problems.

So, you can see probiotics are not something “nice” to have, they have absolutely everything to do with the health of every part of your body…just as important as food.

ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PROBIOTICS?
When it comes to probiotics there are 2 types: solid, dry (capsules) and fermented liquid probiotics.

DRY PROBIOTICS
The way that the dry capsule probiotics are made is that they will identify particular bacteria that are good for the gut. They then grow them each individually in a laboratory and multiply them into the billions of “Colony forming units” or CFU’s. They then freeze-dry them to keep them alive and put them into capsules. The reason they need billions of CFUs is because the bacteria are not very resilient (strong) and so a lot of them either die before reaching the gut, or are not fully awake yet by the time they leave the gut. These bacteria were not exposed to real world conditions…they’ve been grown alone in a lab with no competition. They have not had to fight to survive, adapt themselves, compete etc, and so they are not very robust. The dry probiotic companies have solved this problem by producing them in the billions of CFUs per dose so that even if a lot of them die, enough are making it through to the gut. But at the end of the day, they are still not the most natural form of bacteria and are still not as strong as they should be.

LIQUID PROBIOTICS
With fermented, liquid probiotics a whole wide group of beneficial bacteria are grown together in real world conditions. They are given a food source and have to survive together, so whilst they are growing, they are adapting, the weak ones are dying out, they are fighting off bad bacteria…and more interestingly, they are also keeping each other alive. So, at the end of the fermentation cycle, you have a group of extremely resilient bacteria that have not only adapted to real world conditions, but they have also created an environment that is good for them to live in!

WHAT ARE RAWBIOTICS PROBIOTICS?
Rawbiotics is a live, non-freeze-dried, liquid probiotic. The advantage it has over Kombucha, Kefir, Maas or anything other fermented liquid probiotic is that it is also produced in a method that gives it a long shelf-life. Because of the stringent temperature controls and control of sugars and pH in our brewing process, we create a product that is stable for more than 2 years once bottled. You cannot get that with other liquid fermented probiotics, e.g. Kefir and Kombucha and so it is quite revolutionary and is the only live probiotic that can get a shelf life like that!

Rawbiotics are vegan friendly. They are also gluten and lactose free and safe for diabetics.
